iOS 10 will let you delete built-in Apple apps

It

I spent two hours straight blogging about everything Apple was going change with the launch of it's new software, and yet it hid the best bit of iOS 10.
You can finally uninstall the Stocks app on the iPhone. I'll just let that sink in. At last. We're free from its tyranny, sitting there upon its throne, not caring if it was stuck away in some folder because IT KNEW that you were unable to get rid of it.
When notifications came to iOS, there it was again. Showing you information on financial things you have no idea about, a bunch of cascading lines that offer something to do with money but you're just here to play Candy Crush.

Maybe Apple is being kept prisoner by Stocks, and this move is its last desperate attempt to free itself from the chains of this previously impervious app, having to dribble the news out on a support page in iOS 10.
Of course this move is bigger than just the removal of stocks: you can drop all the pre-installed Apple apps on your iPhone, taking back the space you paid for but were unable to access. Never listen to Podcasts? Cast it out. Not much of a math fan? Calculate the optimum time to delete Calculator. Perfectly able to work out where you are? Jettison the Compass and Apple Maps without a look back.
You can delete reams of these apps, freeing up so much space. While you'll lose all your user data (which is hardly unexpected) you'll still be able to get them back if you accidentally get rid of Notes and feel the need to sketch some rude pics using the Apple Pencil on your iPad - they'll be instantly added to your suite of apps that offer the little 'cloud with an arrow underneath' icon.
Obviously there's a few built in bits and pieces that you can't get rid of: Camera, Phone and Messages all remain due to their importance on the core functionality of the phone. Although that still feels a bit unfair - surely as long as you can prove you've got one messaging app or camera choice on there, you should be able to get rid of the old ones?
Then again, if you don't have the Messages app that could cause a lot of issues when people try to send you a missive, so rather than deal with that it makes sense for Apple to have mandated you must always have a portal for messages coming over the airwaves.

There's still one weird interloper though: Game Center, one of the least-used apps in my life, gets a stay of execution. While I know it's the central point for a lot of apps, it doesn't seem to be something that's so core you'd need to keep it around.
Perhaps it's part of the process of installing some games, and ripping it out would cause them to fall apart. Or maybe the developer of it has pictures of key Apple personnel in compromising positions.
I've still got a few questions though: if I get rid of Mail, will Gmail become my default app? Why can I not get rid of Safari but Music, iTunes Store and Contacts are fair game? And by making these their own apps, will they be pushed differently on the App Store and updated more often?
It's important to note that some things won't work when you uninstall some apps: delete the Watch app when you're still paired to a timepiece (why you'd want to do that is unclear) will tell you remove the connection first. If you don't have Podcasts, you can't listen to podcasts on CarPlay (surprise). If you remove the Weather app, none of the places in the iPhone that showed the weather (like the notifications bar) won't be able to do so either.
But that's it. Those tiny issues are the only places that you'll need to worry about, and it's worth it to have the thought of a phone so uncluttered that it only has six or seven apps on the home screen, with no folders in sight. A clean utopia where you no longer feel the itch that you should be thinking about a financial portfolio, simply to justify the existence of the Stocks app in your life.
It's here people. We're free.

Official teaser video for the OnePlus 3 is out

OnePlus has outed a video teaser of its upcoming OnePlus 3 smartphone. Released by OnePlus India on YouTube, it's just a 6-second video that doesn't reveal anything specific about the device's design or its specs.
However, what it does reveal is that the device will be made official on June 14 (10:00 PM), which is not inline with the June 15 date confirmed by OnePlus China recently.
It might simply be the case of the Chinese launch coming a day later than the international one. Aside from this, the teaser also tells us that the phone will be an Amazon exclusive.
In case you missed, OnePlus has announced that a total of 1,000 units of the OP3 will be up for grabs on June 6 in China. Read more about the flash sale here.

Huawei plans to launch a new Honor smartphone in Europe on June 20

Today Huawei has started sending out media invites for a "virtual launch" that will be taking place on June 20. At that point, the Chinese company's Honor sub-brand will be unveiling a new and "exciting" product in Europe.
This will apparently be "fast, robust, and affordable", as you can see from the invite pictured below.

What isn't very clear is whether this event will be used by Honor to launch an entirely new smartphone, say the recently rumored Honor 8, or just mark the European arrival of one that's already out in China (we're thinking of the Honor V8 here). Since the words "in Europe" are used in the invite we assume it's the latter, but we'll have to wait and see.

Apple CEO shares plans for the company's future in India

Apple CEO shares plans for the company's f
uture in India

Apple's CEO Tim Cook is on an official visit in India, meeting up with the government and carriers to talk about the company's future in the country. Amidst those talks he went for an exclusive interview on NDTV, where he shared Apple's plans for making a move on the Indian market.
For one, Apple sees India as having an "enormously bright future" and it's one Apple wants to be a part of. "We're here for a thousand years" were the exact words. Tim Cook sees the rollout of 4G as key to both India's future and Apple's part of it.

Tim Cook was clear that he sees talent in India, and it's talent that needs to be given a chance, hence the opening of the iOS app development accelerator, planed for next year. Additionally, several hundred million dollars will be put in the Maps development facility.
One challenge that the company is facing is bringing certified pre-owned devices to the country, which has so far been limited by government restrictions. And since that's the affordable entry into the Apple ecosystem, the low market share is partially a consequence of the lack of such a practice.
On the matter of ecosystem, which doesn't currently exist for Apple in India quite the same way it does in the US, Tim Cook said that the plan was to bring all of the existing services to the local market, and if new ones were found, unique to India, to develop those as well. Apple Pay, specifically, is also on the table, with talks going on with Indian banks.
Another issue to deal with is the India tax structure, which makes it difficult for carriers to sell products, and while iPhones are commonly sold by the carriers in the US and other parts of the world, in India it's third-party retailers' job. Related to this, Apple is also in talks about the future of Apple retail in the country, but the green-light hasn't been given yet.
Apple's CEO was clear that indianisation of the company will take place, unlike what many other companies have done to adapt to the local market. Apple remains a California company, no matter the market, is the summary of that topic.
Those were a few of the main points in the conversation, and you can watch an excerpt below. For the full interview, head over to the Source link on the bottom.

Meizu MX6 will have two RAM and storage versions, new report claims

Meizu MX6 will have two RAM and storage versions, new report claims

That Pro 6 or Pro 7 with a double curved touchscreen isn't the only device that Meizu is going to launch at some point in the second half of this year. It will be joined in the Chinese company's portfolio by the MX6, obviously the successor to the MX5 from last year.
Although we've already heard a few mumblings about the MX6's specs, today a new report from China comes to shed some light on the two hardware versions it will allegedly have. Accompanying the info is the image you can see below. It's not clear if this is supposed to depict the upcoming MX6 or not, though. If it is, then expect the handset to look exactly like its predecessor.

The MX6 will reportedly be sold with either 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, or 4GB and 64GB, respectively. The 20.7 MP rear camera and 8 MP front-facing snapper are confirmed once more, along with the MediaTek Helio X20 chipset at the helm.
According to past leaks and rumors, the Meizu MX6 will also have a 1080p display, a 4,000 mAh battery, LTE support, as well as Android 6.0 Marshmallow hiding underneath Flyme OS.

Nubia exec teases Z11 Max with 83.27% screen-to-body ratio

Nubia exec teases Z11 Max with 83.27% screen-to-body ratio

ZTE's nubia sub-brand has already announced the Z11 mini, the first member in its Z11 family. And earlier this month we've seen the other two devices in the line getting certified for sale in China by TENAA. So both the Z11 and the Z11 Max should become official soon.
In the meantime, Ni Fei, nubia's general manager and co-founder, has decided to start teasing the Z11 Max. He's done so on Weibo by posting the image you can see below.

The render of the upcoming Z11 Max is accompanied by a claim that should bring very good news to people who love big displays on phones but hate handsets that are themselves huge. It turns out that the Z11 Max will come with an 83.27% screen-to-body ratio, which is up there with the best in the business.
This has obviously been achieved by using minimal bezels, both on the sides of the display but also the top and bottom of the phone. As per TENAA's images from a while back, the nubia Z11 Max should sport a metal construction and a fingerprint scanner on the back.
Spec-wise, we'll get a 6-inch 1080p touchscreen, a 16 MP rear camera, an 8 MP selfie shooter, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 652 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and a 4,000 mAh battery. It's likely to run Android 5.1 Lollipop underneath nubia's own UI.

Sony behind on iPhone 7 camera sensor production, LG steps in

Sony behind on iPhone 7 camera sensor production, LG steps in

Apple may be going to LG as a primary supplier of dual-camera modules for initial batches of the iPhone 7, Japanese analysts from Nomura Securities have been quoted as saying. Sony, which was originally meant to be the main vendor, is facing lower-than-expected yield, as well as having to deal with the aftermath of the Kumamoto earthquakes in April, which affected the company's production facilities in the region.

Additionally, Nomura Securities predicts that Apple will opt for an optically stabilized camera on the regular-sized 4.7-inch iPhone 7, and not just the 7 Plus model. Both the iPhone 6 andiPhone 6s lacked OIS, while their 6 Plus and 6s Plus counterparts had the feature.
Rumors on the upcoming iPhone 7 have been coming in by the dozens, and it may end up being waterproof, while keeping the same dimensions as the current model. An alleged retail box was caught on camera, but nothing beats the renders we were sent by a casemaker, supposedly the real deal.

Samsung rolls out update for Galaxy S7/S7 edge, very specific bug fixes this time

Samsung rolls out update for Galaxy S7/S7 edge, very specific bug fixes this time

Outside of the typical monthly schedule, which brings in the latest Android security patch, Samsung has released new firmware updates for the current flagships Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. The timing is extraordinary, but then so is the nature of the updates.
Unlike the usual generic release notes that cite unnamed bug fixes and performance improvements, these latest releases address very specific issues. The first one on the list is perhaps the one that's hardest to understand, but the summary is that screen clarity when using Always On Display has been improved.

Other things being fixed include cover recognition, flickering video playback after recording and being able to turn off Power saving mode with Google Now running. The occasional issue of not being able to save files to microSD cards has been dealt with, as well.
Now, you may not have experienced any of those, but that's no reason not to go through with the updates when they arrive (ours haven't yet). Oddly, for such a short and specific list, the firmware files are quite hefty, at 332MB and 353MB for the S7 and S7 edge respectively. Some bugs they must have been.

The Samsung Galaxy C5 has also been benchmarked, and we even got a quick glimpse of the smartphone in the wild just last week. Now that the handset has cleared certification in China, we’re going to take a final look at the Samsung Galaxy C5 specifications so you’ll be able to make an informed decision when release date rolls around.
According to the TENAA listing, the Samsung Galaxy C5 is going to be of average size with measurements of 145.9mm x 72mm x 6.7mm. The metal chassis will protect a 5.2-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 otherwise known as FHD. The chip powering the show will be the popular Snapdragon 617, and you’ll find 4GB of RAM and your choice of 32GB or 64GB of storage under the hood as well.
Connectivity options for the Samsung Galaxy C5 will include dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.1, and 4G LTE. As is the case with most of Sammy’s nicer devices, you will also get a fingerprint sensor. The front-facing camera is larger than average at 8MP while the rear camera is a more than sufficient 16MP sensor with a dual-tone LED flash. The Samsung Galaxy C5 will run Android 6.0 out of the box with the usual amount of bloatware and will draw its power from a 2,600mAh battery.
